Muffins with Mom #DeliciousPairings Starbucks and Wal-Mart

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you know that there are two things that I love in my hand. In the evenings, it’s VINO. In the morning, it’s my JAVA!! I am a lover of the coffee bean…so much that at one point, my kitchen decorations were centered around it. (I know I know). When I found out about the #DeliciousPairings Starbucks display in Wal-Mart stores, I was a tad bit excited….OK..I was hysterical! The masterminds at Starbucks have teamed up with The Bakery at Wal-Mart for a beautiful display pairing up their goodies with the perfect blend of coffee…GENIUS! So off to the store I went…

Walmart Delicious Pairings

When I got there, I was impressed by the lovely display of all the pastries. Bagels and Doughnuts and Muffins..Oh my! Presentation is everything! I’m loving this whole #DeliciousPairings thing. Aren’t you?

We make every effort to eat our meals together as a family. This is really tough, because like any other family, our mornings are HECTIC! The easy part was knowing that I had something delicious and quick already planned for our breakfast. The hard part was deciding which one. Decisions, decisions.

We chose Wal-Mart Banana Nut Muffins. Yum!

But wait! It gets better….Starbucks gives you pairing suggestions to match the coffee blend with the most complimentary pastry of your choice. Since we chose Banana Nut, it was recommended that we pair it with the House (Medium) Blend of Starbucks coffee. I’m a fan of all the Starbucks varieties, so this a great addition to my collection!

What better way to make my morning crew smile at breakfast than to promise them muffins? One for Dad on his commute and the rest for me and the kids. Mommy gets her Starbucks coffee and everyone’s happy! I bring them home and can’t wait for the next morning. I couldn’t wait, so I brewed a cup when I got home. One word. Delightful.

;

The next morning, I bite into my muffin. Incredible (and moist)….I pair them together and I can truly say that they matched PERFECTLY! I cherish these sweet little moments with my kids. They grow up so fast! All smiles…PLUS no breakfast dishes to soak! Woohoo!

So, after putting the kids on the bus, I get to sit back relax for a minute and look back at what once was a very delightful breakfast and decide that we’ll do it again tomorrow. :-)

GE Bringing Choices to Light…”The After”

Powder Room Transformation

I’m  still making changes to our new home, but they have not moved as quickly as I would have hoped. However, I promised you the powder room, so here is what we’ve done so far. I will say that I have learned so much about my decor style. I always knew I was sort of a hybrid between traditional and contemporary, but never knew it had a name. I like what they call, “transitional style” decor for my home. Once I read the description, it was dead on for what I look for when decorating my home. HGTV describes transitional decor as “a marriage of traditional and contemporary furniture, finishes, materials and fabrics equating to a classic, timeless design. Furniture lines are simple yet sophisticated, featuring either straight lines or rounded profiles.

The transitional color palette relies on a lack of color to evoke a clean, serene atmosphere. Dark brown can add depth to a neutral balance of taupe, tan and vanilla.” BINGO! This is me all day long. So, now that I know who I am…I can just go for it! And I am having fun too! So here are a few pics of the powder room and picture of my foyer with all of the lighting used being the Energy Smart Lighting that I purchased from Wal-Mart back in November. I’m still excited about the cost-savings as well as the long-lasting bulbs.

***UPDATE***

When I originally posted the pics of the powder room, I couldn’t find any ORIGINAL pics BEFORE our initial process, well….Here ya go! (I know, I know) This is what we had to deal with when we moved in…Believe me when I say, we have our work cut out for us! But, thank God we’re having fun in the process.

So here is the powder room with a fresh coat of paint, a new vanity and the harsh bright lighting.

Holiday Dress Shopping with Cookie’s Kids

Princess A in Cookie's Kids Holiday Dress

It’s that time again! Time for holiday parties and Breakfast with Santa. It’s also time to dress up in your holiday’s finest. We love that around here! Since my favorite son is taken care of and baby girl has all of her big sissy’s holiday dresses handed down to her, naturally we needed to shop for Princess A. This is actually quite fun, because she is my Little Miss ”fill in the blank”, ready for prim and all things proper.

Smart & Sassy Mom Shopping Cookie's Kids

Since this was my first time shopping with Cookie’s Kids, I was pleasantly surprised to see how adorable their clothes were and the prices made everything even MORE ADORABLE!! Like I said, all you need to do is say the word, and the Princess is right there! So, online we went. The hardest part was deciding which one to choose.

Cookie's Kis Holiday Dresses

There are more than just affordable holiday dresses. There’s casual wear, uniforms, shoes and lots of popular and stylish pieces…but we were on a mission. So, we had to stick to the plan.

Dorissa Cookie's Kids

After about 10 changes of the mind, we decided that “Dorissa” was the one! Isn’t she lovely? The detailing won us over….

Alva Kids

They even have this neat app, called Alva Kids that provides sizing recommendations by remembering detailed information about your kids, like their height, weight, measurements and ages, to make each shopping experience customized and amazingly simple!

GE Bringing Choices to Light Project

At the end of the summer my family and I relocated to a another state. The house we got is amazingly charming, but to meet my standards, it needed a LOTTTT of work. My husband and I are HUGE fans of HGTV, so we can always spot potential in any home we see. We knew we had our work cut out for us, but doing the work together and anticipating the outcome of each project would be well worth the work. I learned that GE wanted to spread the word about their energy-efficient lighting. Hmmmm….sounded interesting. So, I thought, what better way to showcase our hard work and renovations while saving money at the same time? This was a perfect opportunity for me to see our annual energy savings as well as provide better lighting to showcase and appreciate our new home. (Disclaimer: I don’t deny vanity and I sure won’t deny the opportunity to save money!) As part of my partnership with GE, I received coupons for my GE light bulbs. All opinions posted about my GE Lighting experience are all my own.

So, this is my experiment with the GE energy-saving lightbulbs: For starters, the mini-me and I went to Wal-Mart to get the GE Energy Smart bulbs.

I chose to replace 6 of my 60 watt lightbulbs, because this is the wattage of most of the lighting in our home. According to the GE lighting energy savings calculator, this would save us about $62 annually PER BULB. OK, I did the math in my hand and got really excited! You know me and my warped thinking. That’s a pair of desinger shoes, a good deal on a hotel stay in Manhattan or an airline ticket to Disney! During this experiment, I will keep up with the amount of energy saved as we check our electricity bill and I’ll also give you before and after pictures of different rooms, so you can see the difference in the lighting. (Think dressing room lighting, ladies. We all want the best lighting when getting ready).

The first finished room in the house is our first floor powder room. It was the quickest and easiest project to do. I’m still deciding on wall fixtures and accents. This is AFTER the renovations but BEFORE I changed the bulbs (I still haven’t replaced the light switch plates…PLEASE IGNORE):

Babies ‘R Us and Graco SnugRide® Click Connect™ 40 Event

This past Saturday we had an absolute good time co-hosting an awesome event for Graco at the Babies R Us in Latham, NY! It was great! Being there was one thing, but working with Jessie from MomVantage made it even more fun! We were able to give away not one…but TWO car seats! Not just any car seat, but the only one of its kind on the market right now. Graco SnugRide® Click Connect™ 40
Graco SnugRide® Click Connect 40
I love giving and it made feel wonderful knowing that I was a part of something so generous! I am a Graco fanatic and being the mother of three, I feel like a bit of a car seat expert. There is quality in the Graco name and I love it!  So, naturally, I enjoyed hosting the party, celebrating their something new and introducing it to the new moms! We were thrilled to learn that Graco has SCORED with there features….with one-hand you can adjust the straps to comfortably fit your growing baby! Genius! Anyone who has ever had to do this before knows how painful it can be… but Graco got it right! :-) I also enjoyed seeing how easy it is to fit the 4 pound “peanut” and quickly change to fit the 40 pound “big kid” in your life!
We had a ball playing celebrity kids trivia games,  sharing the excitement with all of the parents-to-be and WOWing them with all the features of  new Graco SnugRide® Click Connect™ 40 while enjoying delish refreshments! It was a good time had by all!
Here are a few more pics from the event:

The Graco SnugRide® Click Connect™ 40 – the first and only newborn to two-year infant car seat that actually grows with your baby from four pounds all the way up to 40 pounds. The car seat is designed for a parent on the go. The infant car seat can be easily removed from the base and used as a carrier when the infant is small, providing portability and convenience so you can easily move your infant in and out of the car without disturbing them.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recently made the recommendation to keep all children in rear-facing car seats until the age of 2. Graco set out to make this product so parents can keep infants rear facing longer while still keeping them comfortable.

Frugal Living–The Grocery Budget | Serving Joyfully

Debt and Budget Series: Frugal Living–The Grocery Budget | Serving Joyfully.

I was so excited when I stumbled upon this blog last week on Facebook called, Serving Joyfully. What a blessing! I immediately got excited when I saw her post about lowering and living on a frugal grocery budget. Lord knows I really need to re-vamp ours, because its on the RIDICULOUS end of the spectrum. She has a $200/month budget!! At first I said,  ”This is close to impossible!” But, she broke it down to simple terms and it appears very doable. Especially, if you’re faced with the challenge. Anything is possible, right?

Anyway, I decided it pay it forward, because I surely found her post (and blog, oeverall) to be a blessing. If you like it, follow and like her on Facebook, too!

If you suffer from sun allergies…Here’s your new bestie!

Chances are, that if you are one of my Facebook friends, you know that I was bitching, moaning, and complaining about spending $70 for SUNSCREEN!!! Well, as it turns out, after our trip to the beach last weekend, It was worth $170!!!!!

La Roche-Posay SPF 60 Melt-in Cream with Meroxyl

For the past 7 years of my life, I have suffered from a sun allergy. The first 3 years, I had no idea what was happening. By the 3rd Summer, I’d had enough hiding and running from the sun and wearing cover-ups and tunics and not enjoying the sun at all! Anytime I was exposed to it, I was covered in rashes, and itching like  CA-RAZY! It has been a terrible vicious cycle: I’m having fun in the sun–> 15 to 30 minutes afterward –> MISERY. I went to my dermatologist and she explained to me the importance of a physical sun block as well as a chemical sunblock. In order for me to be protected, I needed both. OK, I swallowed my pride and slathered on the thick, creamy sunblock that turns my pretty brown skin a nice shade of GREY! UGH! Only to find a little relief but nothing completely.

This year, I researched and Googled and came up with a nice discovery. Its called La Roche-Posay SPF 60 Anthelios XL Melt-in Cream with Meroxyl. (What a mouthful!) I asked one of the girls in the dermatologist’s office about it and she said it was good. I looked a product reviews and skin cancer patients swear by it. Again, I saw the price and thought to myself I have to consider two things: 1) I’m going on vacation and I want to have fun with the family and 2) I’m going to ALABAMA for most of the Summer and you know I need it there!

I went to Amazon.com. I added it to my cart, closed my eyes and clicked PAY  NOW….

Got my bottle in the mail and I went from this:

All covered up

to this:

Look Ma! No rash!

It blended right into my skin. I wasn’t GREY. Its smelled decent and there was not a rash, not a bump, not ONE itch!!! I’m so happy that I can feel like a human being again and not covered up in stylish tunic or a long-sleeved rash guard. I can pull off a lot of “looks”, but surfer girl wasn’t doing it for me. Sorry!

So now, I’m just paying it forward. Oh! And CVS pharmacy now has La Roche-Posay  skin care line and i was excited to see an entire display along the wall, but they didn’t carry my combination of SPF 60 plus the unique ingredient Meroxyl that I bought. You may still be able to find the perfect sunscreen for you. Hope this will help you or someone you know enjoy their Summer!

Product Review: Plum Organics Baby Food

“Don’t mess with my Plum!”

PlumP

Ok….I’m in love! Yes, with my sweet baby, but now with her new food. I’m a self-proclaimed foodie and I cannot bring myself to feed my babies just anything. So, naturally, I researched “good organic baby food”. Tons of things came up in the search. Got a little frustrated and then I moved on.

I went to Babies R Us browsing the baby food aisle and saw something. The packaging screamed, “Sheree!! Over here!!” These little pouches were made by Plum Organics. And wait,  it gets even better…they were having a sale!! 10 for $10. I picked one of the pouches up and my heart started racing. No, seriously…I saw broccoli apple…sweet potato corn & apple…pumpkin & banana….spinach peas & pear…green bean, pear & greek yogurt and OMG! I even saw apple, raisin & quinoa!!!!!

I can’t even begin to list all of the delicious combinations they have. the combinations are tasty, healthy and guess what? All organic. Yes, indeedy!

Needless to say, I bought 10 of them and I cannot WAIT to get back to stockpile these babies! Of course, I taste them as we try new ones and every one of them are delicious. I want to eat them myself! That’s my definition of food for babies — Simply pureed food. Where were you Plum Organics when my other two were babies??

My Plum Organics Baby food haul | photo credit @smartnsassymom

So, I went to the Plum Organics website and saw that Babies R Us, Whole Foods and Target sells them!  I even found that Amazon sells them as well, which is great because I do tons of on-line shopping! They even have toddler food with “big kid” food coming soon! *swoons*
My sweet baby loves each of the flavors we’ve tried and hasn’t “pushed my hand away” ONCE! (That’s good for my Little Miss Personality). She is getting the hang of the pouch, which I can really see coming in handy while I’m driving or busy with other stuff.
Just wanted to tell you about this gourmet baby food find. I will do a little research and constantly try to find these on sale. Don’t judge me if you see me squeezing one of these bad boys in my own mouth…Hey! I’m a mom on the go!
